Projects exist, but they don’t connect. Pages feel isolated, decisions are unclear, and the portfolio doesn’t explain who you are or what matters in your work.
A portfolio is not just a collection of image...
It’s a sequence of ideas.
Building a portfolio alone makes it hard to judge quality. Without outside eyes, it’s difficult to know what to cut, what to push, and what is actually working.
With an overwhelming amount of tools, techniques, and trends in architectural representation, finding the right path can feel like navigating a maze.
Generic tutorials and resources might teach you how to use a tool, but they often miss the mark in teaching you how to create something that resonates with your unique style and audience.

A one-week, live portfolio workshop combining recorded lessons with daily portfolio clinics and group discussion.
The Portfolio Workshop runs as a one-week focused experience combining four live portfolio clinics with recorded Masterclasses and Portfolio in Action sessions. You’ll receive access to all recordings for one year so you can revisit the material as you continue building your portfolio.
You don’t need a finished portfolio, but we strongly recommend that you’ve already started working on one.
The workshop is most effective for participants who come in with some material in hand, whether that’s a rough draft, an incomplete portfolio, or an earlier version that needs restructuring. This allows us to review real work, discuss concrete decisions, and help you refine what’s already there.
While it’s possible to join without a portfolio, we’ve consistently seen better results from those who arrive having already engaged with the portfolio-building process, even if the work is far from final.
All live portfolio clinics take place via a group video call, similar to Zoom. You’ll receive the access links and all necessary details through the workshop group space before the week starts. No special setup is required beyond a stable internet connection and a device that can join a live video session.
Yes. All live portfolio clinics are recorded and made available alongside the Masterclasses and Portfolio in Action sessions so you can revisit them up to one year after the workshop.
Exact dates and times are shared when we announce the new dates for the next edition.
Because participants join from different parts of the world, we aim to choose a time slot that works reasonably well across multiple time zones. That said, we understand it may not be a perfect fit for everyone.
For that reason, all live sessions are recorded and made available so you can revisit the discussions even if you can’t attend every session live.
You’ll need a device with internet access, a stable connection, and the ability to join live video sessions. A webcam and microphone are recommended but not required. No special hardware beyond what you already use for design work is necessary.
Adobe InDesign is strongly recommended for building architectural portfolios, which is why access to the InDesign for Architects course by Upstairs is included with the workshop.
That said, the workshop itself does not teach InDesign step by step. The focus is on portfolio thinking rather than software, including structure, narrative, sequencing, layout decisions, and how to communicate ideas clearly. The included InDesign course helps you get up to speed on the technical side so software doesn’t become a barrier.
The workshop is intentionally capped to keep the group small. This allows us to review work properly, answer questions in real time, and keep the live clinics interactive. With a larger group, the quality of feedback and discussion would drop, which goes against the purpose of the workshop.
The group space is where all announcements, links, recordings, and communication happen. It’s also where participants can ask questions and interact with peers during the workshop.
You may request a refund within 7 days of purchase.
Because the Portfolio Workshop is a short, live experience with immediate access to materials and limited seating, we recommend reviewing the workshop structure, time commitment, and schedule carefully before enrolling. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, feel free to reach out with questions before signing up.
